Santa Monica Nights (New Canon)

Introduction:

Santa Monica Nights is a shard of Vampire the Masquerade designed as a sequel to the video game Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. The setting has been played and built for years in various mediums including tabletop, freeform RP, and a Discord community. Santa Monica Nights is largely built around my character Katalina Mendoza.

Specific Configurations:

• Prime Canon: This is the setting built around the original Elder Katalina Mendoza.
• New Canon : This is the setting built around the new 'Boomer' Katalina.

What lore is this setting compliant with?

Santa Monica Nights is considered a direct sequel to Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. The VTM5 timeline is assumed, but in gaps that do not break the cohesion of canon VTM20 events can be used. Some important takeways:

• Not considered compliant with LA By Night (Minds Eye Theater canon). Can use the lore where contradictions do not exist.
• Not considered compliant with Vampire: The Requiem.
• Will likely be incompatible with VTMB2 if it ever comes out - lore may be adapted to conform as best as possible.
• Jenna Cross did not rise to power. Katalina killed her when she attempted to rise. ((I learned about Jenna Cross long after I had written Katalina's takeover of Santa Monica lol))
• Jeremy MacNeil existed, but is still lost.
• The Kuei-Jin is still entrenched in LA.
• Therese and Jeanette Voureman both survived the events of VTM:B, mediated to peace by Velorynza Origen.
• Smiling Jack did not leave LA.
• Velorynza Origen was the Fledgling of VTM:B and followed a Camarilla-path playthrough. She survived. She is a Tremere and is the protege of Maximillian Strauss
• Katalina Mendoza killed Prince LaCroix and did most of the 'side quest' content in VTMB.
• After the death of Prince LaCroix, Maximillian Strauss took over as the Prince as the resident Seneschal. However, after a power struggle Jacques Delahay claimed the title of Prince. The resulting power struggles required intervention from the Camarilla inner circle.
• Amadeus Backhauser is the Prince of the Camarilla since appx 2016 - a member of the Camarilla inner circle.

Haven of Santa Monica

The Haven of Santa Monica is an independent faction that is formally allied with the Anarch Free State but also maintains a peace treaty with the Camarilla. It is actively hostile against the Kuei Jin and Sabbat - especially the latter. The Haven is always on the backfoot against the other major factions, and i often bullied into obedience by the Camarilla or coerced into action by the Anarchs. However, they are not entirely helpless and have repelled incursions into their territory. The main strength of the Haven are its great numbers concentrated into a small area - making any real attempts to conquer them infeasible. The Haven represents a tipping point to the balance of power - if the Sabbat, Camarilla, or Anarch Free State were able to recruit them into their sect it would spell doom for the other factions.

• Katalina Mendoza is born in Havana Cuba.

1987

June 6th

• Katalina Mendoza, known by her stage name as Kelly Johnson, dies in the Los Angeles General Medical Center emergency room from a cocaine overdose. However, minutes after her death she is embraced by her manager, Jacques Delahay, and enters the world of darkness.

2004

October 21st

• Beginning of Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.
• A woman named Jessica Tertullian is Embraced by her Sire, Virgil Cannis. She is enlisted by the Prince to aid in his plans, provided a haven in Santa Monica by the Anarchs belonging to Katalina Mendoza, and begins her journey into the night.
• A college student named Heather Poe is mortally injured in a horrific car accident and sent to a 24 hour discount hospital in Santa Monica where she meets Katalina Mendoza. Katalina takes pitty on the young woman, and saves her life by turning her into a ghoul.
